A Study on Admission course of Psychiatric Patients


Abstract
The present research attempted to study the course of admission of the psychiatric patients in Korea. 2550 mental patients were included in this study who had admitted to 89 mental hospitals all over the country on 1, April, 1974 and had discharged during one month, April, 1974- The subjects included this study was sampled totally who possible to interview.
The result from. this study was as follow;
1. Hospitalized patients number was 1844, discharged patients was 706, total number was 2550.
Male-female sex ratio of the subjects was 6:4.
With age distribution, 20-24 age group hold 20. 6 percent, 25-29 age group hold 21. 9 per cent; twenties age group hold 48.7 percent of total subjects.
2. With the course of admission, the forced admission had a majority at 49.3 percent, the adviced admission was 35.7 percent, the adviced admission was 35.7 percent and the voluntary admission was 8.3 percent.
3. With the relationship of the admission course and the type of hospitals, the university hospitals had a majority of the voluntary admission at 44.5 pecent, the private hospitals and the national and city hospitals had a majority of the forced admission at 56.9 percent, 58. 1 percent respectively.
With the frequency of the transference frequencies, university hospitals, national and city hospitals, private hospitals were followed orderly. These differences in the frequency of the transference each hospital were very significant. (P<0.001)
4. With the relationship of the admission course and clinical diagnoses, psychoses group contained higher forced admission than neuroses group. Schizophrenia group was admitted forcedly at 56. 5 percent, and neuroses group contained only 17. 9 percent forced admission. Affective disorder group was admitted forcedly at 45.5 percent and personality disorder group contained 53.6 percent forced admission.
The mental patient group higher at the forced admission than average mean of total group were Schizophrenia group and personality disorder group. The voluntary admission of these two group was only 5.5 percent, 5.9 percent respectively.
These differences of two group and the other group were moderately significant. (P<0. 05)
